With MSMEs being at the front line of job creation in Kenya, the #shesnext event by Visa couldn’t have happened at a better time. #MSMEs are critical to Kenya’s economic sustainability and growth, constituting 98% of all businesses, creating 40% jobs annually and contributing 3% to the GDP.
Technology has eased starting and running of businesses by linking women to new communities and giving them quick access to learning new skills which help them scale. Kenyan women are also well known for their resourcefulness.
The young ladies, from #genz and #millenial communities, were able to showcase their diverse innovations and businesses; from natural skin care products to coding platforms for kids, et cetra. They told their compelling entrepreneurial stories and each emerged a winner!
The impact is multifaceted; creating employment and new partnerships, driving socio-economic development and contributing to the broader objective of transforming Kenya’s economy.
