Will it be easy? Nope. Worth it? Absolutely! That’s what I keep telling myself every beginning of the year. It’s like being given a second chance to start afresh. The older we get, the more we want and the further we want to go in life right? I always get goosebumps at the thought of getting to a point and looking back only to wish I had done more.
Technically, January is just another month but we are so scared of it because there is a lot of pressure on setting goals and this could get a bit overwhelming. Never feel like your goals are too small, in fact, don’t even compare them to someone else’s. Both big and small are important. However for me, I take two points into consideration when setting goals, which helps me a lot.
1.Writing down my goals
If you want to achieve something you must commit to it and the first form of commitment is putting it down on paper or your mobile/tablet, being from a journalistic background I like to write down almost everything. This helps give a reference point as you work towards achieving them. After putting them down, section them into months so that each month has a special target.
2.Putting deadlines
Without deadlines, the month can easily go away, so it is very important to say for example by 15th, I’ll have posted 2 stories or I’ll have completed my first book. Goal-setting is definitely something I want to make a habit.
Looking at last year’s achievements
This is just as important as setting goals. In fact they are directly related, look at what didn’t work last year and hopefully change a few things and try to make it work this time round. With almost everything available on the internet, we have access to so many articles, books and websites that could assist us greatly with our projects.
Can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store
It’s great to know that you’ll definitely experience new things compared to the previous year which will bring about growth in one way or another. You could decide to visit different places than you did last year, changing things up a little bit here and there. Also, being a new birthday year, you could do something even more special for your birthday. Physical things are cute but it is experiences which last a lifetime. I’m looking forward to many more wonderful experiences.
Challenge myself more
I definitely must challenge myself more. I want to stretch myself as far as possible in everything I do. Before thinking of changing the world, we must be ready to change ourselves first and in order to do that, we should be prepared. I’ve just finished my first 2018 book “Who moved my Cheese” I learnt so much from this especially concerning thinking ahead and being ready for change even before it comes. I plan to review it soon right here hoping it will help you too. Also read the inspiring story on Baby Steps here.
The weather
Finally, I love this time of the year because of sunny weather, no pressure to put on layers of clothes. However, this January has been very different with some rain here and there, which is very fine of course, a great blessing! Come rain or sunshine, 2018 will be a good year and each day special.
What has been the best part of your 2018 so far?
